Breakin the Wall

Seminar “Breakin’ the Wall” is going to be held in Zagreb from July 29th to August 2nd. Participants will be high school students from Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia. Organizers are young people from these three countries, determined to make a positive change in relations between their nations. We want to contribute to solving the problem of prejudices, intolerance and hatred, caused by war conflicts in the past, between Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia. These prejudices still exist and largely determine relations between young people from these countries. There is lack of knowledge and relevant information about culture, customs, religion and current situation in these countries, as well as lack of contact and exchange of opinions and experience between youth of these countries. All this support and strengthen existing stereotypes.

Goals of this seminar are:

•Breaking prejudice among young people from Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina and preventing ethnic intolerance.
•Connecting high-school students and giving them a chance to explore other countries and cultures and form a network which will continue to exist.
•Giving young people a chance to work in multicultural team in order to express their creativity and thru this motivate them to influence their environment in a positive way.

During “Breakin’ the Wall” seminar we are going to organize:

o Interactive workshops in which participants will create their own common media (newspaper, web magazine, blog..)
o Workshops and lectures about tolerance, nonviolent communication, peace, solidarity, respect for differences
o Discussions and sharing information about their countries and, on the other hand, issues and problems which are important for young people of their age o Team-building activities (cooking together, excursions, special-task teams…)

Organizers of the seminar are Ida, Azra and Radan, all of them university students or recent graduates, coming from Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia. Framework for realization of this project is provided by Balkans, let’s get up!.
